Photograph of the week (29)

My camera hasn’t actually been out since my mum and sister were here two weekends ago – the horror! But since I have yet to put those pictures up, you’ll have to imagine I took these this week πŸ˜›

Photograph of the week! Taken at Marsden Bay, in the thickest fog I’ve seen in a while:

I like this one because of the way the landscape just fades away in one direction, while abruptly disappearing (literally off the edge of the cliff) horizontally.

The cliff path is only separated from the edge by railings sporadically, and I confess I would be too scared to cycle along it in the fog for fear of going over – these guys are brave!

Marsden rock in the fog.

These next pictures came from THREE weekends ago (I am being a bit lax here, lol), when Audrey and I were at Tynemouth:

Part of the Priory – I love the Priory! I could take pictures of it for hours.

Stained glass windows reflected onto the wall of the chapel.

I just love the way this window is framed by the door πŸ™‚

And finally, a game! Ten universe points to whoever guesses what this is first:

Audrey gets nothing because she was there when I took it πŸ˜›

  1. I am sure the last photo is some kind of special geological rock formation, but I’m stumped as to the proper name for it. So no Universe points for me, even though I could use some at the moment πŸ˜›

Daredevil cyclists indeed! I was one of those kids that liked to go right to the edge of those cliffs and stand on my tippy-toes, half dangling over the edge and giving my Mum a heart attack.

  2. Some kind of geological rock formation would have been my first idea too, but I’m going to guess that they’re actually lumps of sand. The route the water took as the tide retreated has somehow carved channels between them and left a funny pattern. Or maybe some kind of burrowing clam has heaped up sand on the surface? The first explanation seems marginally more likely given the symmetry of the lumpy bits.

Haha, my brother always used to torture my mum by going as close to the cliffs as he could too! I never dared, though, and I’m shuddering a little a little at the mere thought of cycling along a cliff path. I’ve never seen a coast path railing that looked particularly trustworthy, although maybe I’m paranoid.

Really like the stained glass window reflection.

Is the final photo weather erosion on a medieval wall/building?

  4. I have no idea what the final picture is, but I’m really intriged now!

These made me pine for angry seasides. I love the sea in horrible weather. So much. Sometimes I get very jealous of all these seaside people in the world. Grr.

    Hope you are well x.

  5. The last photo is most definitely one that you talk when you and Audrey visited the moon. If you dig around the bumps you will find Clangers.

And in case you are all too young for Clangers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCcD0aqUgCo

  6. I give up. Seriously. I’ve kept an eye on this post to see what the mysterious picture is, give us a clue!

  7. I was happening to look at Audrey’s blog too and I think she gives away your mystery picture. I wouldn’t have guessed though!

That fog looks scary! Or maybe it makes the height less scary if you can’t see the bottom?!

Your Window Framed by Door is my particular favourite!
